Biography:

Harsha Upadhyay is the Corporate Director of Performance Improvement for Prime Healthcare Services. Harsha has a strong focus on organization wide performance improvement processes, patient safety and is an expert in healthcare accreditation. He serves as an expert resource within Prime Healthcare Services as it relates to clinical quality, patient safety, regulatory and accreditation programs. In his role, Harsha has successfully leveraged operations and efficiencies in performance improvement and accreditation. Under his leadership and direction, several Prime hospitals have received special recognition and awards in quality at the national level.

Experience:

Prior to working with Prime Hospitals, Harsha managed patient safety and accreditation operations at UCLA Medical Center and introduced tracer methodology in preparation for its accreditation surveys. Harsha holds an MBA in Hospital Administration, and MS in Healthcare Management. Harsha is also a Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality and a Certified Specialist in Healthcare Accreditation. He is a member of California Association of Healthcare Quality, Association for Healthcare Accreditation Professionals and Center for Improvement in Healthcare Quality. He is also an active member of the California Hospital Association Quality Committee.

There is a lot that can be done and I believe AHAP is on the right track progressing with the times in getting the industry leaders together. Recent Accomplishments:

 

  • Prime Healthcare Services recognized as one of the top 10 US health systems by Thomson Reuters and the only for-profit health system to receive this coveted recognition from the west coast.
  • Three of Prime Healthcare Services hospitals named in US Top 100 Hospitals by Thompson Reuters. The award recognizes hospitals in achieving excellence in clinical outcomes, patient satisfaction and patient safety. (Implemented integrated Patient Safety Programs in all Prime OC facilities with demonstrated reduction in patient falls, medication errors, restraints, hospital acquired decubitus ulcers and effective pain management. Improved documentation in medication management, legibility and reduction in usage of unapproved abbreviations, leading to reduced liability for the Prime. Implemented IHI initiatives (RRT, VAP and Central Line bundles) and reducing organization wide mortality and HAI rates).
